Politèia: A Training Path Facilitating Cooperation in the Calatino Territory

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 3:30 PM at Palazzo dell’Aquila in Caltagirone, the significant achievements of the participants in the training and support path "Towards the Cooperative Community of Calatino" will be shared, organized by the Agrigento and Trapani Community Foundation within the framework of Politèia.
The Politèia project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, aims to contribute to the development and strengthening of a concept of "citizenship" as belonging to the global community, pragmatically contributing to individual and collective change towards a more sustainable and just world.
The training and support path commenced in October 2024, following the signing of the "Generative Community Pact," engaging over 30 individuals as active citizens, representatives from third-sector organizations, and local businesses in the Calatino territory.
The Training Path
Throughout the program, participants acquired knowledge of approaches and tools aimed at facilitating co-design and cooperation among local stakeholders. Insights into change theory and project design provided a solid foundation for turning ideas into tangible actions, while exposure to Dragon Dreaming stimulated creativity and collaboration during project development. Training in facilitation techniques and digital tools guided constructive discussions and encouraged active participation from all group members.
Inspired by successful case studies, participants explored the myriad possibilities offered by cooperative models based on principles of mutuality and sustainability. Through emotional engagement, the path fostered a stronger and more cohesive sense of community, enhancing participants' ability to: 1) identify problems and needs within their local reality, 2) nurture community dreams to address these needs, and 3) transform these dreams into concrete and achievable change projects.
##
Cooperation in the Calatino Territory
Under the guidance of the Foundation's facilitators, Calatino stakeholders adopted a proactive approach to problem-solving, organizing autonomous coordination meetings. During these gatherings, participants conducted mapping activities of underutilized spaces and available competencies, highlighting collaboration opportunities within the territory. With support from the Agrigento and Trapani Community Foundation and following feasibility analysis, the most promising proposals were integrated into a shared action plan.
The action plan developed by participants will be presented on Saturday, June 8, in the form of a "Community Walk through the Streets of Caltagirone," starting at 3:30 PM at Palazzo dell’Aquila. Path participants will guide attendees through some of the mapped underutilized locations, narrating the present and future journey of cooperation within the Calatino Community.
