Social Generativity and Community Design: results, challenges, and future prospects of the Politèia project
On November 28, 2024, as part of the project *Politèia – Inclusive Green Economy for the Community*, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, a concluding roundtable discussion titled Social Generativity and Community Design: Results, Challenges, and Future Prospects took place. The event marked a pivotal moment of feedback and dialogue among participants in the training and support program organized by the Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani.
A Training Path for More Cohesive and Sustainable Communities
The roundtable crowned a 30-hour training and support journey aimed at strengthening the skills of Third Sector organizations, businesses, and citizens from 15 municipalities in the Calatino region in participatory planning. The program, structured into two main modules, addressed essential themes to promote a culture of social generativity and foster shared actions capable of generating a tangible impact on local communities.
- Workshop on Social Generativity: This module included four sessions and a final event dedicated to building generative communities, fostering organizational collaboration, and creating a generative community pact.
- Community Design Pathway: Ten structured meetings equipped participants with practical tools for group work, applying the Theory of Change, and developing a Social Community Canvas and an action plan for an inclusive green economy.

The Roundtable Participants and Results
During the roundtable, five Third Sector organizations had the opportunity to present the projects and initiatives launched thanks to the skills acquired during the training program. Archeoclub d’Italia APS Caltagirone Show People, Il Ramarro, Extopia APS, and the Youth Council of Caltagirone shared significant experiences and outcomes. Their testimonials highlighted how the training program created opportunities for the growth of local networks, fostering stronger collaboration between organizations and citizens. The program also enabled the development of practical skills for participatory planning. By utilizing tools such as the Social Community Canvas, participants were able to structure innovative projects with measurable and tangible impacts on their respective communities.
Future Challenges
The roundtable concluded with a collective call to continue working together to build more resilient and cohesive communities. The Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani is committed to further supporting these organizations, encouraging the dissemination of innovative and generative practices for collective well-being.

Looking ahead, the Foundation aims to promote a culture of participatory planning that can become a replicable model for other communities. The testimonials and experiences shared during the roundtable serve as both a source of inspiration and a starting point for new collaborations, based on the conviction that change arises from the ability to act together with vision and determination.
About the Project
The Politèia – Inclusive Green Economy for the Community project is funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The lead partner is the Municipality of Caltagirone, with project partners including the Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani, CONAI-National Packaging Consortium, Associazione Don Bosco 2000, Fondazione AVSI, Kalat Ambiente SRR S.c.p.a., Fratello Sole, and the 14 municipalities of the Calatino area.
