STIV: European project for sustainable viticulture has been launched

On January 9 and 10, the Kick-Off Meeting (KOM) of the European project STIV – Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Manage a Sustainable Transition in Viticulture was held at the University of Bordeaux. The project, funded by the Erasmus+ KA220 program and supported by the European Commission through the Agence Erasmus+ France Education et Formation, involves partners from France, Italy, Serbia, and Spain.

An International Meeting for Sustainable Viticulture

The meeting, hosted by the coordinating Université de Bordeaux, was attended by the Agrigento and Trapani Community Foundation (Italy), Cropt d.o.o. (Serbia), Escuela De Viticultura Y Enología "Félix Jiménez" De Requena (Spain), and La Unio De Llauradors I Ramaders Del Pais Valencia (Spain). These partners represent a multidisciplinary consortium committed to developing innovative solutions for sustainable viticulture transition.

During the two days, the project structure was thoroughly explored, combining artificial intelligence with agroecological practices to support winegrowers in sustainably managing their vineyards. The partners worked synergistically to examine the various work packages and plan the upcoming activities, ensuring effective coordination of project initiatives.

Next Steps

The project aims to use artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to accompany the ecological transition of European viticulture by integrating innovation and sustainability. In the coming months, the consortium will work on creating a Handbook and Toolkit, practical tools that will help winegrowers implement sustainable practices in their vineyards. Simultaneously, a collaboration protocol will be developed to facilitate knowledge exchange and interaction among winegrowers at the European level.

Another key moment of the project will be the organization of two international training sessions, one in Spain and one in Italy, designed to train participants on using innovative tools and agroecological techniques. These interventions aim not only to enhance the skills of winegrowers but also to build a collaborative network that can support the wine sector in its sustainable evolution.

The project, funded by the Erasmus+ program (Project Number: 2024-1-FR01-KA220-VET-000245913) and supported by the European Commission through the Agence Erasmus+ France Education et Formation, has a duration of 24 months, involving 5 partners from 4 European countries.
