The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani is Born

After a three-year process of community engagement, The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani has been established with the aim of mobilizing resources and energies in the territory of Southwestern Sicily, promoting a culture of solidarity and social responsibility.

The region that stretches between the provinces of Agrigento and Trapani, due to its geographical, historical, and socio-economic characteristics, presents unique challenges and opportunities. It is this very territory that defines the identity of The Community Foundation, based on its centrality to the Mediterranean Sea, the economic and social importance of food and agriculture-related industries, and its natural and cultural heritage.

In this context, The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani will be responsible for generating innovative social infrastructure programs capable of having a strategic impact on the territory. The challenge is to engage all stakeholders interested in addressing community needs, to identify solutions together, and to implement strategic and sustainable responses.

By supporting the development of community leadership and acting as an activator and catalyst for resources, The Foundation will contribute to improving social cohesion, promoting comprehensive human development, sustainable development actions, and circular economies. An ecosystem will be created to promote initiative and act as its guarantor.

The keywords of the project include development (social, cultural, and economic), innovation, youth, community, cooperation, inclusion, collaboration, social generativity, fair and just work, hybrid partnerships (local and extralocal), a culture of giving, and strategic philanthropy.

In particular, The Community Foundation will dedicate its efforts to some areas of intervention: combating youth unemployment, international cooperation and migrant reception, promotion and management of common goods, tools for inclusive and effective territorial socio-economic policies.

The establishment of The Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani is part of the program to support community foundations in Southern Italy promoted by the CON IL SUD Foundation, which has already enabled the establishment of the first 5 Community Foundations in Southern Italy. In addition to the newly established Foundation, two others are already active in Sicily (the Messina Community Foundation and the Val di Noto Community Foundation), and three in Campania (the Salerno Community Foundation, the Historic Center of Naples Community Foundation, and the San Gennaro Community Foundation).
