YouLeaders Toolkit: Open Educational Resources for Young Leaders!

The YouLeaders Toolkit is an innovative resource offering Open Educational Resources (OERs) in five languages (English, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese) aimed at helping young leaders develop key skills in leadership and social entrepreneurship. Developed under the YouLeaders project—co-funded by Erasmus+ and the Italian National Youth Agency—the toolkit encourages active citizenship and promotes youth initiatives in rural areas of Italy, Spain, and Portugal.

Since its inception in 2022, the project has engaged over 90 young people between the ages of 14 and 19, offering them capacity-building pathways to develop vital entrepreneurial and social skills essential for navigating the job market and leading community-driven initiatives. The toolkit was designed not only to enhance entrepreneurial skills but also to empower young people to make a tangible difference in their communities.

A Practical Guide for Young Leaders

The YouLeaders Toolkit is not just a theoretical manual but a collection of practical, adaptable resources that guide young people in acquiring transversal skills. It is designed for individual use as well as by teachers and facilitators. The toolkit offers practical exercises, worksheets, and trainer guides, making it accessible even to those without prior entrepreneurial experience.

The development of the YouLeaders Toolkit followed a collaborative approach, involving students, teachers, and experts from Italy, Spain, and Portugal. These stakeholders participated in the design of the training program through focus groups, and in testing and refining the toolkit through the capacity-building program. This active involvement, combined with the cross-European collaboration, ensured that the toolkit is adaptable to diverse community needs and applicable across different contexts.

Structure and Content of the Toolkit

The YouLeaders Toolkit is structured into modules that address key areas of leadership and social entrepreneurship:

  • Theory of Change and Design Thinking: Teaches young leaders how to design effective solutions to meet community needs.
  • Soft Skills: Focuses on developing essential transversal skills like time management, communication, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Social Innovation: Provides tools for fostering creative thinking and applying a human-centered approach to problem-solving.
  • Entrepreneurship: Helps participants identify business ideas aligned with their ambitions and develop concrete launch plans.
  • Digital Skills: Includes modules on the responsible use of digital technologies and the creation of ethical digital content.
  • Sustainable Development and Gender Equality: Promotes understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of gender equity in social projects.

The versatility of its content and accessibility make the YouLeaders Toolkit a valuable resource for anyone aiming to make a difference at both local and global levels. It provides a concrete pathway for transforming ideas into real, sustainable projects, contributing to the overall development and well-being of communities.

The International Conference “Youth and Entrepreneurship”

The YouLeaders Toolkit will be officially presented at the International Conference "Youth and Entrepreneurship", taking place in Trapani at Beehive - Valore Sud (C.so Vittorio Emanuele 42) on September 24, from 15:30 to 18:00. This event will offer a unique opportunity to explore the toolkit’s features, understand its potential, and learn how to use it to create innovative, impactful projects within local communities. The conference will also serve as a platform for young leaders, educators, and stakeholders to discuss key topics related to youth leadership and social entrepreneurship.
