Project objective

The project aims to reduce school dropout rates and low basic skills among students in rural and disadvantaged areas through an empowerment and capacity building action targeting secondary school teachers and adolescent educators. Through an innovative and personalised programme, based on learning by doing and bottom-up, community-based approaches, the project will strengthen teachers' skills, transforming them into agents of change in the current education system.

Target audience

The project, implemented simultaneously in Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal, targets:

  • Secondary school teachers
  • Educators
  • Staff of local public authorities (such as educational institutions, local administration social services offices)
  • Actors in the educating community (sports associations, NGOs, civil society organisations, etc.)

Activities

The project aims to promote both the empowerment of teachers and educators and the resilience of local communities through 3 main actions:

Training: After an initial exchange of educational best practices and identification of the learning needs faced by teachers, open educational resources will be co-developed and tested. Participating teachers and educators will be able to improve their skills and learn new ways of delivering teaching through a highly formative and interactive path aimed at developing skills and soft skills useful for engaging disadvantaged and struggling students.

Development & pilot test of educating communities: participants, supported by the resources developed by the project, will co-develop new models of educating community connecting schools, public bodies and private organisations working with adolescents to share material and non-material resources during and after the end of the project. Workshop and co-design activities will result in a Toolbox for the development of educating communities comprising educational resources and practical tools for developing cooperation models between key actors in educating community interactions.

Co-design and development of an "open report card for individualised paths": thanks to the exchange of know-how between actors in each local educating community and the co-design of a tool dedicated to student empowerment, an "Individual paths open dashboard" will be developed and tested, an interactive digital tool dedicated to the development of individual paths for students. The dashboard will interactively provide tools and methodologies for the shared creation of personalised development and engagement paths based on the student profile.
