Children Create the World

Goal of the project

Our goal is to develop the creative, expressive, and authorial capacities of children aged 0–6, with particular attention to those living in vulnerable circumstances, and to recognise them as active participants in cultural and social life.

The project also aims to change adults' perception of the role, skills, and contribution of children, strengthening the capacities of families, educators, and cultural professionals. Through training, workshops, Agoras, and innovative tools, the project promotes educational and cultural services that are more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to early childhood.

Who is it for?

The project targets children aged 0–6 and their families, with particular attention to those living in vulnerable settings, such as hospitals, residential communities, and disadvantaged neighbourhoods.

It also targets educators, teachers, social and cultural professionals, museums, libraries, and early childhood services in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Sicily.

Activities

The project promotes four main actions aimed at enhancing the cultural agency, creativity, and authorship of children aged 0–6, while improving access to educational and cultural opportunities.

1. Good Practice Modelling and Guidelines: this action involves mapping existing good practices and developing the Child Cultural Policy 0-6, a methodological framework that can be replicated nationwide. Six digital modules on emerging topics — including digital well-being, the 0-2 age group, and cultural accessibility — will also be developed and made available on the Alchemilla Education platform.
2. Training: sixteen local training programmes will be delivered across Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Sicily, alongside two national programmes, reaching approximately 600 professionals. The activities will strengthen the skills needed to recognise and enhance children's cultural agency.
3. Participatory Workshops: fifty workshops for children and families will take place in hospitals, schools, nurseries, residential communities, reception centres, and cultural venues. Co-designed with educational, cultural, social, and healthcare organisations, the activities will use a variety of expressive languages to develop children's creativity and authorship.
4. Children's Agora: public spaces will be created to showcase children's cultural creations. This action will include the development of four museum kits and 16 exhibitions involving children, families, and local communities.
