Bench Art e Casa delle Storie: en plain di rigenerazione da Scaro Cafè ad Agrigento

Nel merito del progetto **BeYou**, Scaro Cafè, ad Agrigento, è stato oggetto di due importanti interventi di rigenerazione con l’inaugurazione di “La Casa delle storie” avvenuta sabato 27 aprile 2024 e il workshop di “BenchArt” che si è svolto domenica 5 maggio 2024.

BeYou è un progetto, finanziato dal programma Erasmus+ e coordinato dalla Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani, che mira a valorizzare il ruolo dei giovani come attori chiave per il cambiamento sociale e lo sviluppo sostenibile delle loro comunità a livello locale ed europeo.

Il progetto attraverso il programma degli "Incubatori Giovanili di Comunità” supporta le fasi di implementazione e valutazione di iniziative e progetti ideati da giovani leader. “Casa delle storie” e “BenchArt” sono due dei progetti selezionati dalla Fondazione Comunitaria per essere realizzati.

Le iniziative hanno coinvolto un folto numero di giovani, turisti, volontari e residenti della città di Agrigento, in particolare dei dintorni di Piazza Ravanusella, e sono state realizzate con il prezioso contributo di TTT - Tierra Techo Trabajo, Consulta Giovanile di Agrigento, Caritas Diocesana di Agrigento e Spiagge Pulite.

Casa delle storie

L’iniziativa nasce dall’idea di Pietro Durante, giovane leader appassionato di lettura, che ha sempre sognato che nella sua città ci fosse una stazione di book-crossing. Diversamente da una biblioteca, Casa delle storie è un luogo dove scambiare libri liberamente, ma anche dove recuperare tesori cartacei che altrimenti finirebbero su uno scaffale in cantina.

Particolarmente significativa infatti è stata l’attenzione dell’iniziativa al riciclo creativo: la casa che ospita le storie è un vecchio armadio rifinito e decorato dalla giovane creativa Sophia Mazza, che con il suo talento è riuscita a restituirgli vita e colore. “Sono molto soddisfatto della buona riuscita del progetto. Nelle grandi città ho sempre visto queste casette e mi chiedevo come mai ad Agrigento non ce ne fosse una. Ora finalmente anche Agrigento abbiamo la Casa delle storie, e sono sicuro che la sua installazione sarà da stimolo per la realizzazione di altre iniziative che mettono al centro la lettura e la condivisione di storie!”

BenchArt

A dare seguito a Casa delle storie, ci ha pensato BenchArt, un workshop per scoprire  come trasformare vecchi listelli di legno e sedie della nonna in colorate sedute, ma anche un’occasione di aggregazione capace di dare sfogo alla creatività.

In tantissimi hanno partecipato al workshop contribuendo alla realizzazione di sedute da destinare alla sala che ospita la stazione di book-crossing. “Vedere così tanta gente entusiasta di impugnare trapani, frese e pennelli è stata una vera gioia. Io stessa ho riscoperto il mio amore per la creatività!”. Sophia Mazza, studentessa di architettura e amante dell’arte, ideatrice e leader dell’iniziativa, vista la buona riuscita dell’iniziativa si dichiara desiderosa di generare altri momenti di aggregazione come questo nella sua città.

BeYou è un progetto selezionato e co-finanziato dal programma Erasmus+ nell’ambito dell’azione chiave 3 “European Youth Together”. Il progetto è coordinato da Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani in partenariato con Organization Earth (Grecia), ANDCTR (Romania), Hub Nicosia (Cipro) e Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (Spagna).

In relation to the **BeYou** project, Scaro Café in Agrigento has been the site of two significant regeneration initiatives: the inauguration of Casa delle Storie (House of Stories) on Saturday, April 27, 2024, and the BenchArt workshop held on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

BeYou is a project funded by the Erasmus+ program and coordinated by the Community Foundation of Agrigento and Trapani. It aims to highlight the role of young people as key actors for social change and sustainable development in their local and European communities.

Through the "Community Youth Incubators" program, the project supports the implementation and evaluation phases of initiatives and projects conceived by young leaders. "Casa delle Storie" and "BenchArt" are two of the projects selected by our Fondazione di Comunità for realization.

The initiatives involved a large number of young people, tourists, volunteers, and residents of Agrigento, particularly from the Piazza Ravanusella area, and were realized with the valuable contribution of TTT – Tierra Techo Trabajo, the Youth Council of Agrigento, the Diocesan Caritas of Agrigento, and Clean Beaches.

Casa delle storie

The initiative was born from the idea of Pietro Durante, a young leader passionate about reading, who always dreamed of having a book-crossing station in his city. Unlike a library, House of Stories is a place to freely exchange books and recover paper treasures that would otherwise end up on a shelf in a basement.

The initiative particularly emphasized creative recycling: the house hosting the stories is an old cabinet refinished and decorated by the young creative Sophia Mazza, whose talent has given it new life and color. "I am very satisfied with the project's success. In big cities, I've always seen these little houses and wondered why there wasn't one in Agrigento. Now we finally have the House of Stories in Agrigento, and I am sure its installation will inspire other initiatives that focus on reading and sharing stories!"

BenchArt

Following House of Stories, the workshop “BenchArt” allowed participants to discover how to transform old wooden slats and grandmother's chairs into colorful seats, also serving as a social gathering that unleashed creativity.

Many participated in the workshop, contributing to the creation of seats destined for the room hosting the book-crossing station. "Seeing so many people enthusiastic about using drills, routers, and brushes was a real joy. I myself rediscovered my love for creativity!" Sophia Mazza, an architecture student and art lover, initiator, and leader of the initiative, expressed her desire to create more moments of social gathering like this in her city, given the initiative's success.
