Il progetto Futurama e le piattaforme digitali civiche FirstLife e CommonsHood: un'esperienza innovativa verso la seconda edizione
Torniamo a raccontarvi del progetto “Futurama – Nuovi modelli per l'educazione digitale e creativa”, selezionato da Con i Bambini nell’ambito del Fondo per il contrasto della povertà educativa minorile e cofinanziato da Fondazione Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. Questa volta lo facciamo attraverso il punto di vista di Federica Ditta, formatrice e ricercatrice che ha collaborato alla strutturazione e realizzazione di due percorsi educativi innovativi, insieme al resto del gruppo di ricerca multidisciplinare Territori e Comunità Digitali del Dipartimento di Informatica dell’Università degli Studi di Torino e allo staff della Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani.
Tra le iniziative che hanno promosso le competenze STEAM degli studenti di Palma di Montechiaro (AG) ed Erice (TP), si distinguono i percorsi basati sulle piattaforme civiche FirstLife e CommonsHood, strumenti digitali che hanno permesso ai partecipanti di esplorare tematiche come l'attivismo civico e le economie alternative. FirstLife, un social network civico, ha consentito di mappare le comunità dal basso, facendo emergere bisogni e potenzialità dei territori. CommonsHood, invece, basato su tecnologia blockchain, ha stimolato riflessioni su economie circolari di piccola scala, offrendo nuove prospettive professionali ai giovani siciliani.
In vista della seconda edizione del progetto, siamo lieti di proporvi un'intervista con Federica Ditta, che ci racconta l’impatto di queste attività, le esperienze vissute dai partecipanti e le prospettive future del progetto.
Come stanno reagendo le e i ragazzi a questo percorso?
“Non è semplice rispondere a questa domanda in modo generico, in quanto le e gli studenti provengono da contesti molto diversi e quindi le emozioni suscitate sono necessariamente differenti, oltre al fatto che i due percorsi sono molto differenti fra loro. In generale ho notato che le e i partecipanti hanno apprezzato l'opportunità di partecipare a un percorso educativo che va oltre il tradizionale approccio didattico, offrendo loro la possibilità di esplorare tematiche reali e attuali e di sviluppare competenze pratiche e trasversali. La varietà delle attività proposte ha favorito un apprendimento stimolante e coinvolgente, che ha contribuito a suscitare interesse e motivazione.”
Dal tuo punto di vista qual è il valore aggiunto di FirstLife e CommonsHood?
“Le due piattaforme offrono un'opportunità unica per esplorare tematiche di grande valore, come l'attivismo civico, le economie alternative e la fiducia reciproca. Inoltre, ci hanno consentito incontri con realtà locali che possono ispirare le e i giovani nel creare nuove prospettive professionali, dimostrando che il futuro può essere costruito anche in Sicilia. Ritengo che sia FirstLife che CommonsHood promuovono la condivisione e lo scambio di conoscenze tra le e i ragazzi, creano un ambiente propizio alla costruzione di reti di apprendimento e sostegno reciproco, sviluppano abilità sociali e cognitive fondamentali, come il lavoro di squadra, ma anche la capacità di comunicare in modo efficace e risolvere problemi in modo collaborativo.”
Che cosa ti ha stupito maggiormente del percorso?
“Ciò che mi ha sorpresa maggiormente è stata la profonda apertura mentale e la ricettività delle e degli adolescenti con cui sto lavorando. Mi ha colpito positivamente la loro capacità di affrontare tematiche complesse. Il confronto con loro è sempre estremamente costruttivo e ho potuto constatare quanto siano in grado di mettersi in gioco e esprimere opinioni interessanti e stimolanti. Inoltre, sono rimasta sorpresa dalla varietà di contesti con cui ho avuto la possibilità di interagire durante il percorso: ogni classe ha portato con sé un bagaglio unico di esperienze e punti di vista, il che ha arricchito ulteriormente il confronto e la discussione. Infine, le tematiche trattate durante il percorso si sono rivelate estremamente coinvolgenti per me. Man mano che i progetti si sono sviluppati, ho avuto l'opportunità di approfondire argomenti affascinanti e sempre più entusiasmanti, aprendomi a nuove prospettive e idee.”

Il progetto Futurama è stato selezionato da Con i Bambini nell’ambito del Fondo per il contrasto della povertà educativa minorile e cofinanziato da Fondazione Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. We are back to talk about the **“Futurama – New Models for Digital and Creative Education”** project, selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund to Combat Educational Poverty among Minors and co-financed by the Fondazione Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. This time, we are sharing the perspective of Federica Ditta, trainer and researcher who collaborated on the design and implementation of two innovative educational pathways, together with the rest of the multidisciplinary research group Territori e Comunità Digitali of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Turin and the staff of the Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani.
Among the initiatives that promoted STEAM competencies for students in Palma di Montechiaro (AG) and Erice (TP), the pathways based on the civic platforms FirstLife and CommonsHood stand out. These digital tools allowed participants to explore topics such as civic activism and alternative economies. FirstLife, a civic social network, enabled community mapping from the ground up, highlighting the needs and potential of the territories. CommonsHood, on the other hand, based on blockchain technology, sparked reflections on small-scale circular economies, offering new professional opportunities for young people in Sicily.
As we prepare for the second edition of the project, we are pleased to present an interview with Federica Ditta, who shares insights on the impact of these activities, the experiences of the participants, and the future prospects of the project.
How are the students reacting to this pathway?
“It’s not easy to answer this question in a general way, as the students come from very different backgrounds, so the emotions sparked are necessarily different. Moreover, the two pathways are quite distinct from each other. In general, I’ve noticed that the participants appreciated the opportunity to engage in an educational journey that goes beyond the traditional teaching approach, allowing them to explore real and current topics while developing practical and transversal skills. The variety of proposed activities fostered stimulating and engaging learning, which contributed to generating interest and motivation.”
In your opinion, what is the added value of FirstLife and CommonsHood?
“Both platforms offer a unique opportunity to explore valuable topics such as civic activism, alternative economies, and mutual trust. Furthermore, they have enabled us to connect with local realities that can inspire young people to create new professional opportunities, showing that the future can be built right here in Sicily. I believe that FirstLife and CommonsHood promote the sharing and exchange of knowledge among the participants, creating a favorable environment for building learning networks and mutual support, and developing essential social and cognitive skills such as teamwork, effective communication, and collaborative problem-solving.”
What has surprised you the most during this pathway?
“What surprised me the most was the students’ openness and receptivity. I was impressed by their ability to tackle complex topics. The discussions with them have always been highly constructive, and I have witnessed how willing they are to get involved and express interesting and stimulating opinions. Additionally, I was amazed by the variety of contexts I had the chance to interact with during the pathway: each class brought a unique set of experiences and perspectives, which further enriched the dialogue. Lastly, the topics we explored during the project turned out to be incredibly engaging for me. As the projects developed, I had the opportunity to dive deeper into fascinating subjects, opening up to new ideas and perspectives.”

The Futurama project was selected by Con i Bambini as part of the Fund to Combat Educational Poverty among Minors and co-financed by the Fondazione Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The Fund was established through an agreement between banking foundations represented by Acri, the National Forum of the Third Sector, and the Government. It supports initiatives aimed at removing economic, social, and cultural barriers that prevent minors from fully accessing educational processes.
